The proposal for a directive on common standards and procedures in member States for returning illegally staying third country nationals is currently discussed at the European Parliament and at the Council of the European Union. The procedure is co-decision.A the Parliament, the rapporteur M. Manfred Weber (http://europa.eu/whoiswho/bin/dispind.pl?lang=en&person_id=109489) has issued a draft report which is discussed at the LIBE Committee. (attached)
A vote in plenary session should occur by march 2007. At the Council, half of the text has been discussed.
